Vonda Skelton
is a wife, mother and grandmother. This
book is written with humour and compassion, and peppered with personal
anecdotes.Although there are some
themes which are universal, the book is intended for women.
Each chapter
focuses on a particular lie that the world teaches – for instance, the lie that
we must look attractive to be worthy, the lie that we must achieve a certain
standard of living to be happy, the lie that our lives on this earth will be
trouble-free.Each chapter contains five
tips or steps to help the reader work towards unmasking that lie.For instance, the chapter on unmasking the
lie that leading a hectic, overtaxed life is God’s plan for us, gave me some
new insights. Her 5 tips there were to
rest in boundaries, rest in plans, rest in relationships, rest in rest and rest
in Him.Other chapters deal with inner
beauty, seeking God’s power for our lives, valuing and being content with our
circumstances, developing a serving spirit, nurturing our family and children,
and coping with trials and suffering.
The last
section of the book contains discussion questions for each chapter. These would be useful for a bible study
group.
You may not
find all the chapters equally relevant to you, but I think those chapters which
unmask a particular lie that you are interested in, would be worth spending
time on.
