Sexual Healing - A Biblical guide to finding freedom from sexual sin and brokenness

Author: David Kyle Foster

Book Ref: BT 708 FOS

Until my reading of this book, my understanding of "sexual sin" has always been dominated by "homosexuality". This may have been so because "homosexuality" has taken much of my attention, and maybe of many other Christians. The debate over the provisions of Section 377A of the Penal Code continues to rage. Recently, there have been comments in the press and over the Internet on this subject. The Methodist Church has seen it neccessary to reiterate again her stand that the practice of homosexuality is incompatible with Christian teachings.

But as pointed out by Foster, "sexual sin" encompasses more situations and conditions. He should know. He has been enslaved for 30 years to numerous sexually addictive behaviours. He was a "sex addict, compulsive and out of control". Beyond his crazy private sexual life, he has spent seven years on the streets of Hollywood as a male prostitute. There was the compulsive masturbation that began before puberty, homosexual activities (including abuse by men who preyed on teenage boys), exhibitionism, voyeurism, prostitution, group sex, satyriasis and so on."

Restored to normalcy and innocence by God in 1980, he founded Mastering Life Ministries to minister to others with similar conditions. His clarion call is "No one is too far gone". The one true God and father of Jesus Christ is always waiting to restore. God's forgiveness and healing will extend to everyone who comes to Him, humble, contrite and wanting Him to heal.

In this book published in 2001, Foster first sets out the foundations for healing. He takes pains to explain what "being made in God's image" means and what the God-designed "sexuality" is. In Part 2, the author elaborates several "sexual sins" and explains how they are aberrations and confusions of that God-designed "sexuality": homosexuality, bisexuality, child sexual abuse, sexual addiction, pornography and masturbation. Finally, in addition to the lists of many ministries available for "counselling" and "ministry" (including website addresses), Foster provides many "suggested readings" for the issues that he has discussed.

This book is not simply a "how-to" book, writeen from a distance by a psychiatrist or a person in full-time ministry compiling past cases. Foster was a victim. But now he not only has the courage to look back and share about his past, he looks forward with conviction and joys that God has delivered him. It is largely because ofthis backdrop that I find this book heart-warming, sincere and more insightful than any other. I also find the lists of resources at the end of the book very helpful for future reference and insights. Indeed, through this book, I have been blessed with a deeper understanding of the issues: as a person "made in the image of God", as a parent and as one in Christian ministry.

Bible Time with Kids - 400+ Bible-based Activities to Use with Children

Author: Cindy Dingwall

Book Ref: BV 1536.3 DIN

This is a wonderful resource book for parents and Sunday School teachers of children aged 4 to 12. Not only does it have creative activities, projects and ideas based on Bible stories and Biblical characters, this book also links every activity to a Scripture passage and incorporates a Bible lesson into the fun activity.

What I especially like about this book is the fact that it has reproducible pages. It would definitely assist the teachers by allowing them to focus on the deliivery of the lesson rather than concentrating on the process of creating materials from scratch.
