![]() Facing The Giants
Director: Alex Kendrick
DVD Ref: DVD DRA.F
This movie is a "must-see" for everyone from tween to adults. It is a Christian movie, written and produced by a church. Don't just watch the movie, watch the behind-the-scenes feature in the DVD too. It is inspiring to even watch how this church made the movie with a small budget and volunteer actors from the church.
The movie starts with a high school football team that is losing very badly. For Coach Taylor, everything in his life seems to be falling apart. His car, his home, his job... and as head coach of a losing football team, the parents, students and the community as a whole are ready to give up on him.
As things seem to be crashing down all around him, Coach Taylor is beginnning to question his own abilities, and even asking, "What's God's doing?"
Giving the matter to the Lord, and trusting the Lord to protect and deliver him, Coach Taylor calls on Him in prayer, pouring over His Word, vowing to trust in Him no matter what.
Watching how the Lord works in the lives of each of the characters in this movie is heartwarming, reminding us all that through God, great things can and DO happen, if we'll only trust in Him!
The entire movie is filled with moral issues and with opportunities for Biblical discussions- how a situation ought to be handled Biblically; there were many such issues that would be great for youth group studies or any group seeking to draw nearer to the Lord or those wanting to learn by example. The DVD even has a Bible study guide that go along with this movie.
I believe that everyone will be able to relate to this movie. It addresses many issues that we have all had to deal with, from a Biblical stand. A well-made movie!!

![]() Facing Your Giants
Author: Max Lucado
Book Ref: BS 580 DAV.L
In the story of David and Goliath, what odds do you give David against his giant? Better odds, perhaps thatn you give yourself against yours. Everyone has a "Goliath" - a problem so overwhelming it is seemingly gigantic in its magnitude.
You know your Goliath. You recognise his walk, the thunder of his voice.
He taunts you with bills you can't pay, grief that you just cannot deal with, people you cannot please, habits you cannot break, failures you cannot forget, and a future you cannot face.
You have seen your Godzilla. The question is, is he all you see?
David is "God focus vs giant focus" He sees the giant, mind you; he jsut sees God more so.
Giants, we must face them. Yet we need not face them alone. Focus first and most on God.
God saw David as "a man after my own heart - Acys 13:22" The times David did, giants fell. The days he didn't, David did.
But just like David, you can face your giant, even if you aren't the strongest, the smartest, the best equipped, or the holiest. David has little to offer to God. He fell as often as he stood, stumbled as often as he conquered. We ride the same roller coaster. We alternate between swan dives and belly flops, souffles and burnt toasts. But for those who know the sound of a Goliath, David gives this reminder:
Focus on Giants - you stumble.
Focus on God - your giants stumble.
If you are ready to face your giants, let his story inspire you to look past your problem towards the solution. The same God who helped him will help you.

![]() Dealing with Doubt
Speaker: Andy Stanley
DVD Ref: DVD STA.D
"I know I am supposed to think about this but is God really there?"
"Why don't things work out for me like they do for everyone else?"
"Am I missing out?"
"If I become a Christian, will all my doubts go away?"
We all have our doubts. At one point or another we have asked ourselves, "Does this stuff really work?" "Is it worth it?" Maybe you're trying to live out your faith at work, and you aren't seeing any impact - except that people think you're weird. Maybe you're watching someone suffer, and God isn't responding. So what are we to do? We know that God honours faith, but where do you doubts fit in?
I once heard a non believer say, "I can't embrace Christianity unless all my questions are answered when I have no more doubts." Walking away from Christianity doesn't clarify the questions. Whether we are Christians or not we all have doubts. The issues is not if you will have doubts, because you will. The issue is what are you going to do with your doubts? What do you do with the doubts? How do you respond?
In this DVD, Andy Stanley gives 2 very engaging talks on what we should do when we have doubts. He lays out the challenges on considering the options and on focusing on God's faithfulness and having a bigger perspective on God's work to get us through times of doubts.
Andy Stanley is practical and animated as he reminds us that doubts can have the potential to wreck our faith and lives yet they can be faith building leading to insight and intimacy with God when we learn to handle doubts.
This DVD is inspiring and encouraging as we learnt o walk in our faith. Though we may never understand our circumstances completely, God wants us to hold on to our faith and trust Him. | |
